Calling All Visually Impaired young Adults:
Join us now for some Amazing Summer Sailing – no experience required !!!
Are you visually impaired and between 18 and 25 years old?
If so, we have a great opportunity for you to sail with us in August in the fantastic sailing region of the South Coast of England where the prestigious Cowes Sailing Week takes place.
You’ll be on a lovely modern 40 foot sailing yacht feeling the sun and wind, and enjoying life on the water with our experienced sighted crew who will guide, coach and look after you. You will sleep in the well appointed cabins on the yacht, and the event includes the cost of your food and non alcoholic drinks on board. As you will see below, the costs to you are extremely reasonable, and this is a rare opportunity to go sailing on an event dedicated to young adults who are either blind or partially sighted.
You will have the chance to take part in activities of running and operating the yacht, and can do as much or as little as you wish. The boat will call into different local ports as part of the event, so you will be able to enjoy shoreside activities as well as sailing during the day – this really is an amazing event and the feedback we have had from our other trips has been fantastic.
We have two separate events lined up in August, and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
When ?
Trip 1, Start 4pm Monday 4 August at to 10am Saturday 10 August.
Trip 2, Start 4pm Thursday 28 August to 10am Sunday 31 August
Where: Start and finish in Southampton town quay, near the Isle of Wight ferry terminal. You will be met by the crew here, where support is given to help you find the boat and get on board. This is a short taxi ride from Southampton train station.
Cost: Thanks to the grant from The Powell Family Foundation the cost is just £25 per person. As above, this includes food and drink on board but excludes food and drink bought on shore and your travel cost to and from the port in Southampton.
You will supported by fully qualified and experienced sighted sailors who are acquainted with supporting those who are visually impaired. Their role is to ensure your safety and to make sure you get the most out of this opportunity.
We eat and sleep onboard the boat and Visa-GB’s ethos is for everyone to be involved in selecting the menu, cooking, washing up and keeping the boat shipshape and of course sailing the boat..
You do not need any experience of sailing to take part, although you do need to be reasonably fit and able as you will be involved in all aspects of sailing and living on the boat.
If you’d like to join us, or talk to us about this great opportunity please call Dee Jones, our Membership Secretary and Vice Chair on 07920 144614 or pop an email to: membership@visa-gb.org.uk.
