Our plan and objectives
To continue empowering visually impaired adults to enjoy sailing
We have been increasing the number of visually impaired adults and volunteers that have signed up to Visa-gb is allowing us to run more trips and get more visually impaired sailors on the water. Our plans are to continue to do this.
Our objectives are to:
- Deliver at least [8] trips a year at the lowest cost to our members
- Benefit more visually impaired adults to enjoy sailing
- Continue to demonstrate ability over disability
- Contribute to improving the health and well-being of our members and help build their confidence and self-belief. Through sailing and other means we will continue to build communities of visually impaired sailors that interact with each other and share life experiences
- Continue to engage with more sailing clubs to help make sailing more accessible to visually impaired adults
- Increase our engagement and communications with local associations for the visually impaired as well as colleges and those that provide support to visually impaired adults to take part in other sports and activities
- Build a strong and financially sustainable organisation that works hard to deliver a range of sponsored sailing opportunities in the UK for those who are new, novices, or who are experienced, and in addition, for those that wish to take part in racing and wish to sail abroad at their own cost without funding from the charity.
To help us deliver these objectives we need your help
You as our members are our focus and we need your help for the organisation to grow and support more visually impaired adults to be empowered to enjoy sailing and the benefits it brings. You can help us by:
- Spreading the word about what we do, the benefits of sailing and benefits of being a member of Visa-gb – membership is free
- Sharing your experiences with your local visually impaired organisations and, if you have any sailing clubs near you, ask them whether they would like to support us in making sailing more accessible to our members and other visually impaired adults
- Help to create communities of visually impaired sailors, through WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media.
- Share your personal experiences of your sight loss and how you have adapted to this.
- Share any support you have had including the equipment or methods you’ve used to adapt and continue to be able to do what you did before your sight loss.
- Become part of the Visa-gb family and help us support more visually impaired adults.
