The Visa-gb Trustee meeting was held at the Union Jack Club in London on 30.11.17, thanks goes to Jim Green for organising such a great venue for our get together .
Travelling in from all points of the compass Colin Fowler rallied his fellow trustees, Jim Green, Jeff Bungay, Keith ‘Lofty’ Sims & Tim Sandford for a full day of discussions on the future plans for the Visually Impaired Sailing Association of Great Britain.
The comprehensive agenda included discussions on the constitution of Visa-gb, reports from the marketing committee, Blind Week sailing, rally and flotilla planning, membership and the best way to measure and build on the growing interest in our organisation.
At the moment we are a Not for Profit Organisation running under strict guidelines that enable us to apply for support from donors and benefactors. One of the crucial factors is that most of our blind and visually impaired sailors don’t have regular work so need trips to be at the lowest cost possible. Sailing and low cost don’t usually walk hand-in-hand so we are looking at the best way to raise funds to help support those that will benefit most from being a part of this rewarding community.
New marketing ideas including promotional clothing, see the trustees in their smart new fleeces, dodgers to go on boats, postcards and other printed matter highlighting our core values: Empowerment, Encouragement, Enjoyment were seen and discussed.
There will be lots more news including details of upcoming sailing trips, social events and a new superstar taking on the role of membership secretary it will all be on our new website soon!
